Jenni Chamberlain serves as Chief Investment Officer for Altree Capital and Portfolio Manager of the Africa Opportunities Funds including Altree Africa, Altree Credit and Altree Impact. Altree Africa is recognized as one of the industry’s pre-eminent Africa ex-South Africa investment funds and was voted Africa ex-South Africa Fund of the Year 2011.
Ms. Chamberlain has been instrumental to the development of the African capital markets and has worked in various asset management, investment banking and corporate advisory roles across the region. Her tenure across the African capital markets spans nearly two decades, and she been actively involved as investor and/or lead agent for numerous primary and secondary market transactions across the continent. Ms. Chamberlain has worked on many deals on the majority of African Stock Exchanges and has an intimate knowledge of trading these markets, including regulatory oversight, compliance controls, currency considerations, custody, administration and operational/back offices issues.
Prior to founding Altree Capital, Ms. Chamberlain served in a number of senior positions, including Chief Executive Officer of Securities Africa and Managing Director, EMEA Equity Sales at HSBC. Whilst at HSBC, she served as member of the EMEA fundraising team and managed the listing process for African companies. In addition, Ms. Chamberlain served as member of HSBC's corporate advisory team on capital restructuring and listing opportunities.
Ms. Chamberlain was named Reuters top-ranked African Research analyst from 1997 – 99. Her work on the African capital markets has been cited by numerous news agencies including Barron’s, BBC, CNBC and Thomson Reuters. She has written for a number of industry publications including Africa Fund Manager, MENA Fund Manager, Hedge Funds Review, HFM Week, MaxHedge and SwissHedge and recently participated in “The High-level Meeting on Africa’s Development Needs” at the United Nations’ 63rd General Assembly and “Issues of Poverty, Development and Investment in Africa” as part of Sarah Brown & Graca Machel’s awareness initiative at 10 Downing Street. She has spoken at numerous African investment conferences including Global Frontier Markets, Hedge Funds World Africa, GAIM and Jetfin Africa, to name a few.
