Amethis healthcare platform Novamed has acquired Polyclinique Internationale de Ouagadougou (PCIO) in Burkina Faso, one of the largest private hospital in the country.

This first acquisition is part of the ambitious expansion strategy of Novamed Group in West and Central Africa.

PCIO was founded in 2007 under the initial name of Clinique du Coeur by well-known cardiologist professors Ali Niakara and Lucie Nebie.

Renamed Polyclinique Internationale de Ouagadougou in 2012, it is one of the biggest and most established private hospitals in the national capital with a reputable cardiology department.

With nearly 50 beds, it remains the only private hospital in Burkina Faso with four cardiologists, among whom two associate professors.

PCIO acquisition by Novamed will allow the private hospital to reinforce its technical facilities in order to turn it into a leading expertise centre attracting the best doctors and a growing number of patients from the whole region.

Besides, the Group aims to develop new specialties such as treatment for cancer.

Together with managers Raymond Farhat and Sami Chabenne, Amethis has created Novamed in November 2015 through a management buyout of a group of private hospitals in Cote d’Ivoire.

In a highly fragmented market, Novamed has become the largest private healthcare group in French-speaking Africa. With nearly 300 beds, Novamed is present in the all major cities in Cote d’Ivoire, and as of now in Burkina Faso, with a network of six private hospitals, one diagnosis centre and the first dental prosthesis centre in the country.

In addition, Novamed is currently building the first private oncology centre of the sub-region and a fully integrated diagnosis centre, as well as finalizing the acquisition of another private hospital in Abidjan.

Amethis and Novamed managers and shareholders ambition to turn the group into the leading medical services provider in West and Central Africa combining medical expertise, respect of patients and good governance.
