Standard Bank has appointed Joël Touré as the new Chief Executive of its subsidiary STANBIC BANK in Côte d’Ivoire, effective June 5, 2019.

Prior to joining Stanbic Bank, Touré held executive positions at United Bank for Africa (UBA) particularly as Managing Director of UBA Burkina Faso.

He has also held positions at Standard Chartered Bank Côte d'Ivoire as Head of Origination and Client Coverage/Corporate and Institutional Banking, where he worked for more than a decade.

Furthermore, he has been Board Member of Société Burkinabé d'Intermédiation Financière (S.B.I.F), Vice-Chairman of the Bankers Association of Burkina Faso (2017–2019) and Member of the National Credit Counsel (CNC) in Burkina Faso.

Touré holds a Master's degree in Management and Finance.

Welcoming Mr. Touré to the Standard Bank Group, Chief Executive for Africa Regions, Sola David-Borha said: “The appointment of Joel is a further step in our drive to establish a solid presence in the Francophone West Africa region with its diverse, rapidly growing economies and business-friendly reputation.”

Touré replaces former Chief Executive Hervé Boyer, who is transitioning to a new role as Director, Regional Development for the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU).

After founding the Stanbic Bank’s operations in Côte d'Ivoire and heading them up since 2014, Boyer will focus on obtaining the licences required to continue Standard Bank’s expansion in Francophone West Africa.

“Our strategy is focused on sectors driving Africa’s growth through proactive client partnerships that deliver innovative solutions.  We continue to utilise our presence and deep knowledge of the African markets to support our clients’ growth aspirations across the continent and link them to global trade corridors and key financial centres. We wish Joël and Hervé well in their new appointments,” said David-Borha.
