Alquity has announced the departure of David McIlroy, who has been managing the Alquity Africa Fund since its inception in 2010, but has made the decision to leave the company and pursue other personal interests.

Roberto Lampl has been appointed the lead PM on the Alquity Africa Fund as well as continuing to run the Alquity Latin America Fund.

Paul Robinson, Founder of Alquity, said: “Roberto Lampl’s proven investment record and strong economic analysis will ensure the Alquity Africa Fund delivers a fresh approach and delivers quality risk adjusted returns. As the global markets enter a difficult 2016, Alquity remains committed to delivering robust investments across all our funds and our revamp is a positive step for the firm."

"Having been with Alquity since the inception of the Africa fund over five years ago, we wish David Mcilroy every success as he pursues other personal interests," he added.

Lampl has considerable experience in African investments and he currently jointly manages the Future World Fund, made up of the best stocks from the African, Asian and Latin American Funds.

Lampl’s Latin America Fund is currently one of the best performing funds in its sector, having beaten the benchmark by 18% over the last year.

Having previously been Head of Emerging Market Funds at Barings, Lampl’s robust portfolio management strategy and strong macro insights will bring the right approach to deliver strong performance in a turbulent environment with Africa having some of the best long-term prospects on the planet.

In addition, Alquity has announced that Mike Sell, who is currently Head of Asian Investments, will take on the role of Director of Investment Process.

Alquity is currently in the process of a recruitment drive to add further emerging market investment expertise to the team with a specific knowledge of both emerging markets and ESG investment.
