EBS Advisory has appointed Paul Ben-Israel to head up our operations in the SADC Region, based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The SADC Region includes member countries Angola, Botswana, Congo (DR), Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Ben-Israel brings to EBS Advisory an in-depth understanding of environmental and social aspects of business, specifically with regard to sustainability.
Having led a number of engagements for South Africa’s renewable energy bid (REBID) programme round 2 and 3 submissions, including leading the teams responsible for concluding environmental impact assessments (EIAs).
He started his career within the pensions’ actuarial department of Alexander Forbes, where he was responsible for pension fund valuation.
Between 2007 and 2013 he was with the professional services firm Deloitte Consulting, focusing on energy and then on sustainability.
During South Africa’s 2008 energy crisis, he also led Eskom’s Energy Efficiency Demand Side Management (EE/DSM) intervention launched under the auspices and guidelines of the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) in 2004 to reduce the demand on the electricity grid without adversely impacting economic and social growth.
A publisher author and past lead in a BRICS plenary session on energy sustainability, Ben-Israel drafted the petroleum industry pricing framework for task 147 and written papers for presentation at the United Nations on climate change.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing from UNISA and an MBA with specialisation in corporate finance and is Prince2 certified in Project Management.
