He will stay on until his successor has been appointed, and will leave on the completion of an appropriate hand-over period later in the year.
His successor will continue to report to Peter Sands, Group CEO, and the Board Risk Committee.

His successor will also continue to report to Group CEO.
In line with its listing requirements, the Group also announced that the day-to-day reporting line of Standard Chartered's Group Corporate Development and Strategy functions will move from Sands to Andy Halford, Group Finance Director with immediate effect.
Sands said: "I would like to thank Richard and Jan for their leadership and contribution to the Group. I have worked very closely with Richard and Jan for many years and I wish them both well on their retirements."
"The intention was that the Group Corporate Development and Strategy functions would report to Andy as soon as he was fully established in his role at Group Finance Director. I am pleased to announce that now is the right time".
